Bus Travel in Belize

As
buses are the primary mode of transportation for most
Belizeans, routes run on regular schedules and will stop to pick up or
drop off passengers at most any location along the way. Every bus
operates with a driver and a conductor to collect the fare. If you're
lucky, the
Express bus might be air-conditioned.

Bus Terminal
In Belize
City, buses arrive at and depart from
the
Belize City Bus Terminal (commonly known as Novelo’s), witch is 0,4
Miles west of the Swing Bridge and located on West Collect Canal.

In Belmopan
is the Bus Terminal in the center, next to Immigration, Police and the
National Assembly on the Bliss Parade. Belmopan is today the mayor Bus
Terminal in Belize. All the Bus from Belize City, to San Ignacio and
Benque stopping in Belmopan. From here you can also catch all the Buses
heading south to Dangriga, Placencia and Punta Gorda.

There
are two types
of Bus services. Regular, meaning buses stop for passengers anywhere
along the
route, and Express which stop only at main towns. Buses in Belize
operate
Daily. The Regular buses are old Bluebird school
buses, not air-conditioned
and are not well equipped to handle luggage.

National Transportation Services
Limited is a
national transport carrier serving all major districts of Belize.
Established in January 2006
following the collapse of the former Novelo's Bus Lines Limited, the
reigning
monopoly company in Belizean transportation, the NTSL is run by the
former
owners of that company, David and Antonio Novelo, on much the same
permits as
the original Novelo's. The two other big carriers are James and BBDC.

Maya Villages leaving Punta Gorda at the Jose Maria Nunez street close

appeal for travelers who want to tour the Peten Region before entering
Belize via the Western border, near Benque
Viejo del Carmen Town. From
there, buses run to San
Ignacio, the capital city of Belmopan, and Belize
City. From these points, travelers can connect to buses
traveling to almost any destination in the country. A trip from Flores
to Belize City is between 15-20 US$. Please always confirm times before
travel. |

about 6 hours. There are a few Express Buses between Cancun and
Chetumal and there is also every hour a regular Bus.
